Chorale Landscapes

The Kingwood Chorale and The Houston Saengerbund are proud to announce an exciting collaboration, featuring an evening of exceptional choral music that highlights the rich legacies of both German and American choral traditions. Under the direction of Juan Garza, the two choirs will be joined by the extraordinarily talented collaborative pianists, Dr. Rob Hunt and Dr. Krume Andreevski, to present a concert filled with timeless choral gems.

The concert will feature key works from two major cultural legacies, showcasing themes that resonate deeply with both German and American audiences. Highlights include Michael Daugherty’s “Abraham Lincoln” from Mount Rushmore and “Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen” from Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, along with many other musical treasures.

Among the most poignant selections is a piece incorporating the text of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, commemorating a pivotal moment in American history. The program also includes “Über sieben Brücken musst du geh’n”, a moving anthem that offered hope and solace in the wake of the Berlin Wall’s fall, symbolizing the reunification of Germany.

Each piece honors a particular chapter in both German and American musical history, reflecting the cultural depth and shared experiences of these two nations.

“I have the distinct pleasure of directing these two wonderful ensembles, and I thought it would be a great idea to bring them together for such a meaningful and powerful evening of music making,” says Juan Garza, conductor of both groups.

Mr. Garza adds, “These concerts are extra special as they unite two long standing and respected musical communities that have a rich history of music-making.”

Audience members can expect an evening filled with exquisite vocal performances and captivating narratives, as the choirs explore music that brings together both history and emotion. This is an experience that promises to touch the hearts of all in attendance, as the melodies convey the essence of these unique chorale landscapes.
